Here
Will Carson

Here in the light of the October moon. Rings spun of glitter, rain through the gloom. Snow to the southwest, rides on the wind. The sun drifts off to bed, then rises again.

Here in the wake of the whispering trail. Autumn cries lonely as thunderstorms wail. Rain from the northeast, rides on the wind. Like hail on a crystal roof, bordered in tin.

Here on the tunnel road, our fingers entwined. We bow to the endless track, of the railway line. A train splits the silent air, and the whistle explodes. History rides in the passenger cars, and the bulk loads of coal.

Here in your arms I lie again. I came with the freedom your love began.

Here on the cotton cloud, our plane glides along. The engines hum lullabies, and mournful star songs. Set course for a distant land, with palms and white sands. Let go of the circumstance, that surrendered your hand.

Here by the fireplace, the embers ignite. As flames grow a curtain rises, in shades of dim light. The warmth burrows into my heartache, and dissolves bitter crimes, wrapped in the blanket of your grace, my clockspring unwinds.

Here in your arms I lie again. I came with the freedom your love began.
